Growing up in the fertile farmlands of rural Michigan, Kurt was always the artistic one … constantly creating, writing or photographing something. No wonder he was drawn to a creative career spanning several decades, in a variety of industries.

After graduating with a B.S. in Education and English from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, Kurt taught for 2 years before serving in the United States Air Force Office of Public Affairs, dedicating 6 years as a liaison between the civilian community and the military. While stationed in Japan, Hawaii and Saudi Arabia – and traveling throughout the Pacific, Far East, Middle East and Europe – Kurt developed a deep appreciation for the distinct architecture, decorative arts and languages of the world. Kurt also attended night school while in the United States Air Force, earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, concentrating in policy analysis and procedures.

Since getting out of the United States Air Force, Kurt has served in content management in newspaper advertising in Phoenix, as well as in content development leadership roles in the fields of healthcare, advertising, digital media and high-end custom furniture here in San Diego.

As a lifelong learner, Kurt is always going to school for something. He spent 5 years attending night school at the Art Institute of California-San Diego and San Diego Mesa College to graduate with highest honors from an interior design program, along with post-graduate studies in ancient languages at Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, Minnesota, as well as business marketing at Western International University in Phoenix. He completed a digital media marketing and social media certification program at San Diego State University and a Six Sigma Black Belt certification – focused on quality and process improvements – at the University of San Diego. What’s next on his list of educational pursuits? A PhD, perhaps?

At Blythe Interiors, Kurt brings all his experiences and education together, handling client relations, marketing, scheduling and basically being Jen’s right-hand man in running her business … keeping everything behind the scenes running smoothly, so the talented design team can focus on creating beautiful living spaces for our clients.
