Vanity Lighting Guide

Whether you’re completely gutting your bathroom and starting from scratch, or just completing a small refresh, vanity lighting (specifically GOOD vanity lighting) is a key component to any elevated design. The quality of the lighting matters but where you choose to hang that lighting is equally as important. An improperly placed sconce or pendant can throw your whole design out of whack, ⁠and we don’t want that! The Basics:

  • When it comes to placement, always start with your mirror

  • Consider how your vanity lighting will interact with overhead lighting

  • Avoid florescent lighting

  • A dimmer switch will help create customized mood lighting


Tips for hanging lighting on the side of the mirror:

  • Consider centering the lighting on the side of the vanity mirror

  • Make sure the fixture isn’t place on the wall past the end of the counter

  • When working with a double vanity and double mirror, consider adding a third fixture in the middle!


Tips for hanging lighting over the vanity mirror:

  • Vanity lighting should never overhang the mirror

  • Ensure the fixture isn’t longer than the mirror

  • Try to center the light between the ceiling and the top of the mirror


Tips for hanging vanity light pendants:

  • Consider hanging a large-scale pendant in the middle of a double vanity

  • For an unexpected look, try staggering two pendants on one side of the vanity

  • Ensure the pendant compliments the mirror style
